University of Surrey: Demystifying Men's Mental Health

  • University of Surrey Guildford, England United Kingdom (map)

As part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about men’s mental health, we are pleased to share that Dan Somers, CEO of MANUP?, will present a special online talk in collaboration with the Wellbeing Champions at the University of Surrey. This event, scheduled for Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in November, highlights our commitment to supporting mental health initiatives and engaging with the community.

About the Speaker:

Dan Somers founded MANUP? to challenge the traditional notion of 'manning up' and to encourage men to feel more comfortable talking about their mental health. After attending too many funerals of men he knew, Dan realised the urgent need to start discussions and raise awareness about men’s mental health. His goal is to ensure that no one suffers in silence.

Event Highlights:

  • Demystifying Men’s Mental Health: Understanding myths and realities.

  • Recognising Signs and Symptoms: Learning about mental health issues that commonly affect men.

  • Supporting Men in the Workplace: Discovering effective ways to support male colleagues, friends, and family members.

  • Open to All: Emphasising the importance of mental health support for everyone, not just men.

Why This Matters:

Although this event is not open to the public, it is a testament to the vital work we do at MANUP?. We can extend our reach and impact by partnering with institutions like the University of Surrey. This collaboration promotes our mission to challenge stereotypes and support men in speaking openly about their mental health.

How to Join:

Details on how to join the online event will be provided closer to the date. We encourage our fundraisers and supporters to share this information within their networks to maximise awareness and engagement.
