WE’RE directly funding research
This is not just about awareness; it’s about action!
At MANUP?, we’re taking a bold stand against the traditional approach to men’s mental health. Our charity, the only one of its kind, is directly funding research to uncover the real reasons behind the male suicide crisis.
Male suicide is a public health emergency. In the UK, suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 and in 2022 three-quarters of all suicide deaths were male.
Dr Susie Bennett’s work, supported by our funding, aims to understand why men are at such risk and what more we can do to support men effectively.
Evidence shows many men are reaching out for help, but not getting the support they need.
A study of middle-aged men who died by suicide, showed 91% had previously sought medical help. This staggering statistic indicates that the current “just talk” approach is far from adequate.
It’s time to rethink our strategies and create tailored solutions that genuinely address men’s unique mental health challenges. Dr Bennett’s research, as highlighted on the Male Suicide Research website, dives deep into these issues, striving to find answers and practical interventions.
Susie’s research is not just about understanding the problem but also about implementing solutions that can save lives.
As a society, we need to shift from simply encouraging men to talk, to actively listening and providing effective support when they do. By funding this ground-breaking research, MANUP? is leading the charge in transforming the conversation around male mental health.
We believe that with the right understanding and approach, we can significantly reduce the alarming rates of male suicide.
